Data quality update: dedupe, pricing audit and verified counts
A summary of the latest data pass across the directory — what was merged, what was removed, and which fields we now refuse to display without verification.
Headline numbers
The directory holds 4,921 tools across 26 groups after the latest cleanup pass. That is down from 4,987 listings, and the reduction is entirely duplicate removal rather than delisting working products.
Deduplication
We found 45 groups where the same product appeared under multiple slugs — typically a canonical entry plus numbered variants created during import. Each group was merged into the canonical slug, keeping the highest verified vote, view and rating values and the most complete description, so no signal was lost.
Pricing audit
Imported pricing was unreliable enough that we stopped trusting it. Unverified labels are now hidden, and the directory filters were reduced to the tiers we can confirm. A missing badge is a statement about our confidence, not about the vendor.
Logos and screenshots
Most imported records had no logo. Rather than shipping blank cards, listings now fall back to the tool's own domain icon and, on detail pages, a live screenshot of the site.
Empty-signal handling
Ratings and review counts with no underlying data are hidden instead of rendered as zero, so an unreviewed tool no longer looks like a poorly reviewed one.
Ongoing
Data quality is maintenance, not a project. Dead-link sweeps, pricing spot-checks and duplicate detection now run as part of every data refresh, and corrections from readers go to the front of the queue.
